THE RISE OF Jeremy Corbyn to the leadership of UK labour has led directly to a meeting which had on its agenda the ‘Relaunching of the young Labour
left’.
The meeting agreed to create the Labour Young Socialists, a new organisation designed to maintain the momentum that has seen thousands of young people
join the Labour Party in recent times.
The founding document of the organisation reads:
‘We want to see capitalism replaced by socialism: a society whose guiding principle is no longer profit, but solidarity; where common ownership
and democracy guarantee a good life for all.’
The original Labour Young Socialists was disbanded in 1993 after several years of open opposition from Labour's right wing who regarded it as
'too radical'.
