IN HIS  best-selling book Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, Reza Aslan argues that the historical Jesus - the Jewish peasant and revolutionary who challenged the rule of the Roman Empire - has been instead misrepresented as a detached supernatural being.

Aslan explores the reasons why the early Christian church preferred to promote an image of Jesus as a peaceful spiritual teacher rather than a politically conscious revolutionary.

Abby Martin interviews Reza Aslan for Breaking The Set. The interview was first broadcast on April 19 Breaking The Set can be seen in New Zealand on RT (Sky 92) Tues-Sat.
