Comedian Michelle A'Court says she heard a song during the 1981 Springbok Tour that wasn't released until 1984.

IN A RECENT opinion column published in The Press, comedian Michelle A'Court recalls the 1981 Springbok tour.

A'Court, who has been a guest panellist on TVNZ's Seven Sharp (the current affairs show for people who don't like current affairs), writes:

My memories of the 1981 Springbok tour are vivid. The Specials' Free Nelson Mandela was the soundtrack to that year (I am humming it now) and each week was punctuated with street protests, every Wednesday and Saturday.

A' Court is clearly a little confused as 'Free Nelson Mandela' wasn't released until 1984. Her memories of the tour don't appear to be  as 'vivid' as she thinks.

A song like Peter Gabriel's 'Biko' had resonance during the Springbok tour - that was released as a single in 1980.
